Responsibilities

MSU EMPLOYEES ONLY

The Maintenance Worker 1, Move and Waste Management, collects refuse and recycling from interior and exterior campus spaces and at campus curbside locations for proper disposal.  This position also performs necessary set-ups for University programming and events and performs inter-office moves.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collects refuse and recycling from interior and exterior campus spaces and at campus curbside locations. Deposits collected material into appropriate compactors, and containers. Collection of refuse to be performed daily. Collection of recyclable material as per the schedule.
  • Ensures that exterior recycling and trash containers are maintained in the proper configuration for uniformity and cleaned according to a prescribed schedule.
  • Performs set-ups for University-sponsored events including, but not limited to: athletic events, convocation and commencement ceremonies, open houses, Homecoming, Board of Trustee meetings, University Senate meetings, etc.
  • Performs inter-office moves -moves, assembles, and disassembles furniture and equipment as outlined in user-prepared Work Requests.
  • Removes and discards debris, broken furniture and equipment; salvages functional furniture to storage areas as appropriate.
  • Provides additional classroom tables and chairs as needed, at the start of the Spring and Fall semesters.
  • Submits completed Work Requests to the Supervisor with all necessary information including time of completion and materials used.
  • Responds to emergencies in a timely and professional manner. Treats all customers with patience and respect.
  • Reports deficiencies observed in the process of performing duties to the Supervisor so that a Work Request can be submitted to the Facilities Service Desk for immediate action.
  • Attends and participates in all department-mandated training programs.
  • Follow all safety procedures described in training sessions. Wear proper personal protective equipment.
  • Inspects assigned equipment and vehicles prior to each use. Reports any problems immediately to the Supervisor. Cleans, maintains and properly stores equipment after each use. Secures vehicles and returns keys to the garage at the end of each shift.
  • May be called upon to assist with snow removal efforts.

This position is designated as essential. The designation of essential requires employees at these 24/7 facilities to be present due to inclement weather situations.

Qualifications

  • A high school diploma or its equivalency is preferred.
  • Must be able to speak, read, and understand English.
  • Must be able to lift 40-60lbs. repeatedly on a routine basis.
  • Must have a valid New Jersey Driver’s License.
  • Once trained, must be able to utilize various types of University-sponsored electronic information systems (handheld devices, Work Request software, etc.)

* This is a 40-hour per week position; Monday- Friday 7:30am-4:00pm. Must be flexible and available to work all assigned shifts, overtime and holiday assignments.

 

SALARY:

O10: $31,982.32-$44,565.31
*NOTE: Salaries for internal candidates are determined by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission’s formula. Salaries for external candidates are determined up to the fourth step $36,176.65.
