Reporting to the Director of BMO the IT/AV Engineer is a hybrid role that involves IT knowledge and select AV expertise required to support the academic programs, research and administrative needs of the college and to maintain a strategic commitment to infuse technology, wherever appropriate, into the teaching, learning and administrative processes at Montclair State University. This position will be proactively involved with standard and secure image creation for Mac and Windows computers based on industry standards along with Crestron AV components. Additionally, it will support the College’s computer laboratories and specialized production and performance locations.


  • Provide support for the client's desktop computing environment via remote connections and/or phone support.
  • Provide support in large-scale desktop rapid deployments, software rollouts, and upgrades.
  • Support end-user questions via email, chat, phone and direct contact regarding their desktop environment and a variety of performance areas. Document, track and monitor work to ensure a timely resolution.
  • Experience with Mac and PC workstations, imaging, application deployment and system maintenance.
  • Ability to learn to use various types of audio-visual equipment and increase knowledge of audio-visual terms, policies, hardware, software and troubleshooting techniques that will further meet the ongoing goals of the unit.
  • Create and execute detailed project plans for all assigned projects.
  • Continuously improve technical knowledge through training and self-study.
  • Attend and participate in departmental and University events and functions.
  • Serve on standing and ad hoc committees as requested.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Bachelor's Degree with at least three (3) years’ related experience or equivalent; or three to five (3-5) years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working for an IT department, audio-visual department or rental house in the K-12 or Higher Education sector, preferred.
  • Hands-on experience managing Windows 7 operating system in an enterprise environment.
  • Hands-on experience managing Mac OSX (versions 10.6 – 10.13.x) operating system in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience using tools like Munki, Reposado, DeployStudio NetBoot and Crestron for application deployment also, with Jamf, SCCM & MDT.
  • A+ certification or willingness to obtain A+ certification within one year of hire date.
  • Additional certifications plus.
