Under the direction of the Crew Supervisor and/or Assistant Housekeeping Supervisor, the Senior Building Maintenance Worker will be responsible for maintaining cleanliness of the Montclair State University facilities.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cleaning campus facilities alone or in teams; cleaning public areas and meeting spaces. Performing room set-ups; replacing light bulbs, cleaning light fixtures and restrooms. Sweeping, mopping, stripping and waxing, buffing floors; vacuuming and shampooing carpets. Collection and removal of trash, bringing trash to curb or receptacles, transfer of recyclable materials. Dusting of all surfaces and vents, and cleaning of inside window surfaces. Cleaning of desks, tables, chairs, and removal of graffiti. Cleaning offices, classrooms, and work areas. Performs snow removal as directed. Attends in-service training and participates in University quality and processing improvement initiatives. Assists with the sorting, distribution, transportation and storage of cleaning supplies. Keeps janitorial closet stocked and clean; maintains housekeeping equipment.
This is a Civil Service non-competitive position. A successful completion of a 4-month working test period is required.
A high school diploma or its equivalency is preferred. Able to speak, read, and understand English. The candidate must be able to lift 25 lbs and use a ladder.
Housekeeping experience in a university, school or hospital setting is preferred.
40 hour work week, with variable hours; must be flexible, and be willing to work any shift.
This position is designated as essential. The designation of essential requires employees at these 24/7 facilities to be present due to inclement weather situations.
O08: $29,817.87-$41,437.77 *NOTE: Salaries for internal candidates are determined by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission’s formula. Salaries for external candidates are determined up to $33,691.17.
