    Reporting to the Director of Undergraduate Admissions, the Assistant Director for Early College Programs works to grow and diversify undergraduate recruitment.

    To this end, the incumbent oversees two important initiatives in the Office of Undergraduate Admissions: The expansion and management of Early College Program at Montclair State University and the development of strategic partnerships with area high schools through dual enrollment agreements. The Early College Program provides ambitious high school students with exciting opportunities to complement high school study with Montclair State University coursework. Through this pre-college program, rising juniors and seniors earn transferable college credits, experience the rigors and expectations of college-level classes, learn alongside Montclair State University students and engage in courses taught by University professors on campus or online.

    Through these programs, the Assistant Director creates awareness of Montclair State University and, overtime, develops a recruitment pipeline of students who have participated in the Programs and partnerships, ultimately converting them to applicants to the University. With the support of the Director, and working with a number of partners across campus, the Assistant Director will handle all logistics related to maintaining these relationships, including drafting agreements for approval and seeking consensus from key stakeholders, managing the application and enrollment process for participant students, liaising with the Registrar's and Provost's Offices to identify courses and programs in which students may enroll, etc.

    The successful candidate for this position will be an independent thinker with experience managing a complex program. S/he will thrive in an autonomous but supportive environment, and will enjoy the challenge of building a program from the ground up.


    The Early College Program at Montclair State University (50%)

    • Provides logistical support and direction to address the needs of the programs' student populations and is the principal agent driving program growth and success.
    • Plans and executes all operational aspects of the programs.
    • Reports on the effectiveness of the programs, associated projects, and major initiatives.
    • Serves as an academic coach to prospective program participants on admission requirements and other issues related to the program.
    • Establishes connections and builds relationships with the middle school and high school counseling community, as well as corporate contacts; actively seeks out opportunities for partnership with these groups and other constituents.
    • Builds on-campus awareness of the programs through the development and execution of a robust internal communication plan.
    • Conducts regular benchmarking research and investigates best practices in order to ensure the programs run efficiently and are well-positioned in the market.
    • Develops and provides programming for the Rising Red Hawks college awareness initiative in middle schools.
    • Presents to a wide array of constituents, including middle and high school students, parents, guidance counselors, corporate contacts, and campus partners.
    • Identifies, tracks, and resolves operational and resources challenges.
    • Travels locally and regionally to present and make connections with key constituents.
    • Works collaboratively with campus partners to support the goals of the programs and actively seeks out opportunities for cross-functional partnerships.
    • Meets enrollment and revenue targets for the Early College Program and works toward the successive growth of the program.
    • Expands the scope of the program, identifying opportunities for revenue generation and additional enrollment, by developing thematic experiences and coursework "packages" for prospective students.
    • Works within a defined budget; demonstrates cost consciousness and operational efficiency.
    • Creates and implements a comprehensive communication plan in order to increase program visibility and drive enrollment.

    Dual Enrollment Program Maintenance and Development (50%)

    • Manages dual enrollment partner agreements with high schools and provides enrollment counseling and assistance to students enrolled in these programs.
    • Proactively develops relationships with high school administrators to encourage the creation of new dual enrollment programs.
    • Working with the Director, drafts and executes new partner agreements with area high schools.
    • Develops a comprehensive communication plan and complementary programming for high school students enrolled in dual enrollment programs with Montclair State in order to create affinity with the University and encourage future matriculation.
    • Performs other duties as assigned.

    • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
    • A demonstrated ability to communicate effectively (written and spoken) to a variety of constituents. 
    • At least two (2) years of experience in higher education or a related field. 
    • Demonstrate experience managing complex projects or programs.
    • A valid driver's license and a willingness to provide coverage at student recruitment events when necessary. Some evening and weekend work is required.
    • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, the ability to think creatively and analytically, and the willingness to work both autonomously and within a group setting is required.
    • The incumbent must possess the ability to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate superlative customer service skills.


    • Experience in the areas of education, community outreach, recruitment, or marketing is a plus.
    • Experience creating educational programming.
    • Direct experience with student recruitment.
    • Fluency in a language other than English.
    • Knowledge of Banner and Slate is a plus.
