  • Overview

    In the Center for Research and Evaluation on Education and Human Services (CREEHS), the Evaluation Associate leads and collaborates on projects involving program planning, program evaluation, and applied research. The Evaluation Associate manages junior staff members and graduate students in conducting project work. The Evaluation Associate reports to a CREEHS Senior Research Associate and the CREEHS Director.

    Responsibilities

    • Collaborating with team members to conceptualize, design and manage project work.
    • Conducting and/or mentoring junior staff and graduate students to conduct a range of tasks, including but not limited to:
      • recruiting participants for research and evaluation studies
      • drafting data collection instruments such as surveys and focus group and interview protocols
      • assisting with scheduling and collecting data (surveys, focus groups, interviews, observations, program documentation)
      • entering and managing data
      • applying to and assuring compliance with the MSU Institutional Review Board (IRB)
      • analyzing and summarizing qualitative and quantitative data
      • preparing reports, presentations, and project proposals
      • preparing literature reviews.
    • Communicating with partners and stakeholders on project needs and progress.
    • Sustaining and strengthening relationships with partners and stakeholders.
    • Tailoring communication of project findings in multiple formats to varied audiences.
    • Providing technical assistance around measurement and evaluation to varied audiences.
    • Supervising junior staff and graduate students on project work.
    • Performing other duties as assigned.

    Qualifications

    REQUIRED:

    • Graduate degree (i.e., Masters or higher) in research/evaluation, public health, education, or a related social science field.
    • Minimum 3 years of experience providing evaluation, research, program planning, and/or other related services to clients or partners, including: managing or coordinating projects or project components; collecting and using data to inform programming and/or decision making; communicating project findings to technical and non-technical audiences; mentoring or managing junior staff or team members.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Strong problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
    • Strengths both as a team player and a self-starter.
    • Strong organizational and time management skills in order to prioritize multiple projects and components.
    • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of participants in the Center’s work, including personnel in organizations and agencies inside and outside the university, as well as key stakeholders receiving or participating in the programs we support.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team and with diverse populations.
    • Proficiency in quantitative and/or qualitative analysis methods.
    • Quick learner, flexible and willing to learn new ideas, content areas, and skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain high quality standards.

     

    PREFERRED:

    • Interest and/or experience working in one of the following research or program areas preferred, but not required: (a) community health and wellness or (b) school-based research (P-12).
    • Experience with GIS and infographic development tools preferred, but not required.
    • Bilingual proficiency also a plus.
